Recycling

The Sanitation department for the City of Jonesboro also handles the Recycling operation for this area. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Please follow these guidelines to ensure a quick and easy pickup.

What materials do I need to recycle?

  • All metal cans
  • All aluminum cans
  • All #1 and #2 Plastics (These plastics are made of PETE or HDPE and will have a Recycling Code number 1 or 2 on the bottom.)
  • Clear glass containers

All items should be rinsed and have lids and caps removed. Paper or polystryrene labels need not be removed.

Do NOT include:

  • Foil
  • Plastic Toys
  • Plastic Bags and Wrappers
  • Styrofoam
  • Other items not listed above

Bags with unacceptable items will not be picked up.

Where do I put my bag when it's full?

Place your bag on the curb when it's full. Recycling bags will be picked up the same day that normal trash bags are. Regular sanitation crews will not pick up Recycling Bags and Recycling crews will not pick up regular trash bags.

How do I get more recycling bags?

Your recycling crew will replace your bag on a 1:1 basis when picking up your recyclables; that is, every bag that is picked up will be replaced with an empty one. Call the sanitation department at 932-7520 if you need more or have any difficulty receiving your bag.

Newspapers

  • Newspapers are now being recycled. No magazines will be accepted.
  • At least two weeks worth of newspapers is required for an acceptable pickup load.
  • Newspapers must be bundled and tied - not in your recycle bag. Please place them in brown paper grocery bags.
  • Bundles should not weigh more than 50lbs each.
  • Dry newspapers, please. Papers that are wet or have previously been wet will not be accepted.
