It is a great time to be part of Jonesboro Public Schools!
Magnet Schools
The Magnet School system at Jonesboro Public Schools continues to grow at least 100 students per year, due in part to the excitement and great programs created by the staff and students at the five magnet schools in the JPS system. Those schools are: Health, Wellness and Enviornmental Studies Magnet; International Studies Magnet; Math and Science Magnet; MicroSociety Magnet and Visual and Performing Arts Magnet.
Academics
The Jonesboro High School Class of 2011 received over $7.6 million dollars in scholarship monies. They were once again recognized by Newsweek Magazine as one of the Top High Schools in the nation. From National Merit finalist to Presidential Scholar finalist, Jonesboro graduates distinguish themselves as some of the strongest in the nation.
Jonesboro Public Schools offer extensive AP Programs with 10 Advanced Placement courses at Jonesboro High School and Pre-AP core courses at both Annie Camp and Douglas MacArthur Junior High Schools. Honors programs also exist at the secondary level, with Gifted and Talented programs offered at the elementary level, and SUCCESS School for probationary students. Jonesboro High School offers three foreign language opportunities (Spanish, French and German) and Spanish and French are offered at both Annie Camp and Douglas MacArthur Junior High Schools.
Ready access to training in 13 skill areas is provided at the Northeast Arkansas Area Technical Center located on the JHS Campus.
Extra-Curricular
Jonesboro Public Schools fine arts programs have a rich tradition of success. The JHS band, chair and drama departments dominate in their respective fields and win many awards and accolades. To date, in the 2011-2012 school year, the JHS Dance Squad won the state championship, the All Region Choir selected 38 JHS students, 30 MacArthur students and 34 Annie Camp students and the Visual & Performing Arts performed to standing room only when performing the elaborate musical presentation of Disney's Mulan Junior.
In athletics, successes in many sports helped JHS to once again win the all around conference sports award. In fact, their successes were so inclusive that all of the senior high sports teams qualified for state playoffs. Both the girls' and boys' tennis teams took the 6A state champions titles this year. Not only did student athletes succeed on the field, the JHS volleyball team received the Academic All-American Award for the 19th straight year and the baseball starting line-up had an average ACT score of 27.
Accredited by the State of Arkansas and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
