Economists Say GDP May Have Grown at 4.6 Percent in Fourth Quarter

Bloomberg News reported the U.S. economy "probably grew in the closing months of 2009 at the fastest pace in almost four years as factories stepped up production and companies purchased new equipment, economists said before reports this week." Gross domestic product "expanded at a 4.6 percent pace from October through December, more than double the prior quarter's growth rate and the strongest since the first three months of 2006, according to the median estimate of 74 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. Other reports may show orders for durable goods increased and home sales declined."
