Craighead County boasts 265 Arkansas Scholars

The Workforce Development Committee at the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce awarded 265 students throughout Craighead County for graduating as an Arkansas Scholar. A reception held on Monday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Bernard’s Auditorium commemorated the event, recognizing both students and their families.

            “The talent of our future presently resides in our Junior High and High Schools throughout our region,” said Michael Givens, chair of the Workforce Development committee. “As business leaders within our community, we understand the quality of our future workforce is directly tied to economic development and our ability as a community to attract and retain business and industry.”

            The program is administered by the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Arkansas Business & Education Alliance. Alan Decker of the ASU Delta Center has coordinated the program in Craighead County as a member of both organizations.

            Students and their families enjoyed pizza, appetizers, and deserts, and students were presented with a certificate and business card. The food was provided through “Leaders of the 21^st Century” sponsors including: ASU College of Business, BancorpSouth, Best Conveyors, Delta Center for Economic Development, Express Employment Professionals, Liberty Bank of Arkansas, NEA Baptist, Otolaryngology & Facial Surgery Center, Pepsi Beverages Company, Ritter Communications, Simmons First Bank, St. Bernards Healthcare , and Sysco Foods.
