Chamber officials participate in highway funding discussion

Ed Way, who chairs the transportation committee for the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce, said there has been work done to secure funding for interchanges in and around Jonesboro.

A key project for the group is to secure funding for a bypass along U.S. 63 southeast of town, Way said.

Way said the project would alleviate traffic problems along both Caraway Road and Stadium Boulevard, noting 36,000 vehicles travel from the Nettleton Avenue-Stadium Boulevard intersection to the Stadium Boulevard-Aggie Road intersection daily.

Way said chamber officials are also taking a regional approach in supporting other area highway construction projects.

“We have to look at it regionally and locally. What is good for Jonesboro is good for the region.,” Way said. “We are also interested in (U.S.) 412 and U.S. 67.”
